My little mainstream denominational church is busying itself with praying for so-and-so’s sore big toe, so-and-so’s common cold, so-and-so’s sore knee. The pity party of victimization rages on, the guilt keeps getting heaped on, enablement has replaced empowerment, and the Spirit has left the building. Worship is dry. People focus on their shortcomings and their separation from God. They label themselves “sinners” and not Children of God, co-heirs to the Kingdom, and “more than just conquerors”. Stolen identities. They are so self-centered that they don’t have time to look to meeting the needs of others. I call out this absolute self-centeredness of the church and get attacked as having no compassion. I don’t idolize the quaint little old pastor who loves to share his cute little anecdotal stories which make people feel good. I call him out for breaking people down by exposing their inadequacies without equipping and reinforcing their identities in Christ. My church is missing the mark.

If my little church is an example of what’s going on in Christian America, then boys, we’re in trouble. Meeting virtually no resistance, the enemies’ camp is bold and coming out of the shadows. Who will stand against it? Who will be bold and stand in glorious victory? Who will take back stolen territory?
